Terms
In short
- Moderalist is free to use. You only pay if you want Sync.
- Your lists are yours. I store them only to sync them for you.
- Payments go through Paddle, who sell Sync to you on my behalf.
- Cancel any time. Ask within 14 days of a payment for your money back.
1. Who I am
Moderalist is made by one person, through my company Big North Company Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (no. 10220839), registered office 11 Carew House, Godfrey Road, London SE18 5HB ("I", "me"). These terms are an agreement between you and me. Contact me at [email protected].
2. What Moderalist is
Moderalist is a to-do app, for anything from running your home to managing projects at work. It runs in your web browser at app.moderalist.com, and lists you make without an account are kept only on your device.
Sync is an optional paid service. It keeps a copy of your lists on my server so they show up on your other devices, and lets you share a workspace with other people.
3. Your account
- You need an account only for Sync. You must be 18 or over to make an account or pay.
- Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Give me a real email address. I use it to sign you in, reset your password and send receipts and service notices. I don't send marketing email.
4. Plans and prices

New accounts get Sync free for 30 days. While you try it, a workspace you own can hold up to 10 people. When the 30 days end, sync stops unless you pay. Your lists stay on your devices. To sync in a workspace someone else owns, you and the owner must both pay, unless it is on a Company plan. You pay in pounds in the UK, and in dollars everywhere else. Tax is added at checkout where it applies.
5. Paying through Paddle
The order process is conducted by the online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle's buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
- Subscriptions renew on their own at the end of each month or year until you cancel.
- You can cancel any time from your account page or the link in your Paddle receipt. You keep Sync until the end of the period you paid for.
- If I change a price, I will email you at least 30 days before it applies to you. You can cancel before then.
- Refunds are covered by my refund policy.
6. Your content
Everything you write in Moderalist stays yours. By using Sync you let me store, copy and send your content only as needed to run Sync for you and the people you share with. I don't sell it, show it to anyone else, or use it to train AI.
7. Fair use
Don't use Moderalist to break the law, to store or share content that is illegal or harms others, to send spam, or to attack, overload or get around the limits of the service. If you do, I may suspend or close your account. I will tell you why unless the law stops me.
8. The open source parts
Much of Moderalist's code is open source. Those licences cover the code. These terms cover the service I run at moderalist.com.
9. If something goes wrong
- I work hard to keep Moderalist running and your data safe, and I back up the Sync server every hour. But no service is perfect, so keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
- I am not responsible for losses that I could not reasonably have foreseen, or that come from things outside my control.
- If you use Moderalist for a business, I am not liable for lost profit or business.
- My total liability to you is limited to what you paid me in the 12 months before the claim, or £100 if that is more.
- Nothing in these terms limits your legal rights as a consumer, or liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
10. Ending
You can stop using Moderalist any time, and delete your account from your Account page. If you have Sync, cancel it first; you can delete once the paid period ends. I may close the service or your account with at least 30 days' notice by email, and give you a way to export your lists first. If I close Sync, I refund any part of a period you have paid for but can't use.
11. Changes to these terms
If I change these terms in a way that matters, I'll email account holders at least 30 days before. The date at the top shows the latest version.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you can also bring a claim in your own country's courts.
